The formula
Monthly pension is pensionable salary multiplied by pensionable service, divided by 70. Nothing else enters it. There is no growth rate, no market return and no relationship to how much was paid in.
What people get wrong about this
People assume the pension scales with salary. For most members it does not, because the ceiling caps pensionable salary at ₹15,000 a month. Thirty five years of service on that ceiling produces a pension in the region of ₹7,929 a month, which is the number that surprises people close to retirement.
Treat EPS as a small floor rather than a retirement plan. The EPF corpus, not the pension, is the part worth optimising.
