What people get wrong about this
The five year rule is about continuous service, not about how long the money has sat in one account. Somebody who worked four years, transferred, then worked two more has six years. Somebody who worked four years, withdrew, then worked two more has two.
People also withdraw between jobs because the balance feels idle. It is not idle: it earns 8.25 percent, tax free, which is difficult to match elsewhere at comparable risk.
