What people get wrong about this
The commonest error is carrying original paperwork in the glovebox. Digital copies in DigiLocker or mParivahan have the same legal standing at a roadside check, and originals in the vehicle are lost with the vehicle.
The second is treating the pollution certificate as an afterthought. It has the shortest validity of anything in the list, so it is the document most likely to have quietly expired.
Why there is no road tax calculator here
Road tax is levied by each state and union territory on its own basis: some on invoice value, some on engine capacity, some on seating, with different slabs for petrol, diesel and electric. That is 36 sets of rules, none of which we have verified against their official source. A calculator producing a confident wrong number would be worse than this paragraph.
